Jeff, If you are building a corvette for flight judging then Pirkle is the way go. If you have a driver and just want a rebuilt, Take your unit to a local rebuilder, these units are very easy to rebuild. most of the time the brushes wear out, or bearings fail.

I echo Mr. Hinckley's recommendation!! Its hard to top his reputation! Even though John has passed, I've from many that his son John is carrying on the same quality. Also if you want to have a "survivor or as is" finish, because of his continued activities with NCRS, he understands the value of the finish that you want. I also have heard that some local rebuilders do not always look at the amp rating of the alternator and sometimes the refurbished amp puts out different amps than what the stamp says. Good luck!!

I have a number of Pirkle rebuilt/restored units and will go nowhere else. Steve

I would also check with Ken Bruno, who also is NCRS member and advertises in the Driveline. He has very reasonable rates and does superb work.

              Re: Rebuilder for1963 alternator

I was able to find a correct dated alt for my May 63 340hp car. Only problem is that I discovered the back half of the case was incorrect.

Im wondering if the vendors such as Prikle have a bunch of parts so that they could build up the complete unit? I also learned that the fan blade is special and what is all this stuff about dated diaodes etc. boy I've got a lot to learn.

In A perfect world I'd like to provide my correct dated front case and get back a perfect 100% unit that will pass judging standards. Is this possible?

              thanks

                  Don,

Its possible if you use John Pirkle for your alternator rebuild.
