try finding an old parts book that a dealership used. They come in two different versions, one with just the part description and number and the other with pictures and numbers. They can be found at swap meets, car shows and of course E-Bay

      Ed,

Here is a link to the 1953-1982 Parts Catalog in pdf form:

This site is for Corvette C3 enthusiasts and has lots of information pertaining to Corvettes built between 1968 and 1982

The six (6) files are about 24m each. This version is circa 1983. I use both the paper and electronic versions. You will want to spend some time getting familar with the Catalog as there are sections for the index, part numbers by Parts Group, and diagrams. The diagrams are organized by Parts Group and Year giving an "exploded" view of the area in question. The diagrams identify particular parts by specific, detailed, group number - this specific group number can inturn be used to look up the part number for the year in question. Takes more time to explain than to do.

Hope this helps while you are looking for a paper copy.

        Ed,

What you want is a 1962 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1961) Vol. 1 (Chassis) and Vil. 2 (Body) or a 1963 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1962). I sold my 1962 catalog several years ago but I still have my 1963 and later parts catalogs. You can sometimes find vintage catalogs on Ebay. I also have a 1966 and 1967 Chevrolet Illustration and Special Information Catalog (Oct. 1965 & Oct. 1966). There were many parts number changes over the years.

Currently both volumes of the 1962 part catalog are on Ebay (not mine).

Getting a parts book for the year of manufacture will be invaluable to you if you are keen on hunting down NOS parts. I have a 59 parts book (for my 59) and it's been a great investment.

GMpartswiki does not have all of the vintage Chevrolet parts catalogs. If I do not know the group number for a particular part I also use gmpartswiki just to quickly get the group number, then I go to the specific year Chevrolet parts catalog in my vintage library of Chevrolet parts catalogs and Chevrolet & GM parts history manuals.

Yup, very true. But in my case, I'm often in the house, not in my shop where my books are when I research numbers. I'm lazy. I don't feel like going way out back to the shop to flip through pages to find it. However my favorite is my 1929 to 1959 P & A which is a monster and weighs about 50 pounds.

I still prefer my vintage parts catalog library rather than relying on gmpartswiki but I do need a larger book shelf as I have more parts catalogs.

About 10 years ago I brought my 1963 (loose leaf type) Chevrolet parts catalog (2112 pages) to Kinko's to have it copied. I was told that it could not be copied until the year 2063. I collected the catalogs over the last 35 year and paying as little as $20 but as much as $200 per catalog. Parts catalogs are currently available on Ebay. I sold my 1955, 1956, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, and 1962 catalogs several years ago for very little money, about $25 to $35 each, not a lot of interest in these catalogs.
