    1972 coupe issues

Good morning people. Need some advice here. please. I'm working 72 coupe and had to replace the gauge bezel due being cracked. Upon removal, I notice a condenser/capacitor mounted below the amp gauge that was not connected. This has a bayonet connector. I have look at numerous places for information with no luck.

Check the UPC U-69 section. The capacitors are part of the radio option installation.

Can you post a photo? If you don't yet have an assembly manual, I could probably e-mail the pertinent sheet.

Rich, I do not have an assembly manual as of yet, which I will order. If you could, please email me the pertinent sheet dealing with this issue....Stephen. This car has been sitting for about 11 years in a garage, showing 110000 miles on it. It's not to bad, just some issues that I need to take care of before I start it.....Looking forward to talking to you people.

Stephen I have a 1968 Corvette and what I mention is how my 68's capacitor was secured to the back of my gauge panel and used. It was secured to the back of the gauge panel with the lower screw of my 68's clock housing.
There is a plastic connector that holds two wires and connects to the battery gauge terminals. The two wire terminals alone connect to the two terminals of the battery gauge.
The wire from the capacitor mounts into the top wire position of the plastic connector that houses the two wires/terminal ends that connect to the battery gauge.
There is a place for the capacitor's wire terminal end to mount into the plastic housing.
Do not know if your 1972's two wire plastic piece for the two battery wires is like my 1968's plastic connector for the two battery wires.

Thanyou. The capacitor is mounted on the amp gauge lower screw. By looking at this, the wire is bent toward the amp gauge connection. I'll go from there. Just wanted some input about this issue before I put power to the car after being stored in a garage for 11 years. Glad I joined the NCRS.

                Alan,

Thanks for taking care of that, I was just getting ready to get that out. I only get to this site every other day! Stephen you all set?

                    Hi Stephen,
REMEMBER what I posted is from the 71 AIM, not the 72.
There COULD have been a change for 72.
I just wanted you to have something to look at!
                    Regards,
                    Alan

Alan, again thank you. After checking the car ID, this car was built October 71.

                        Stephen,

As you can see, the assembly manual is the best $20 you can spend!!! I bought mine a week after buying my '73. That's when I learned all about missing emissions equipment! Next thing I knew my OCD kicked in and I joined the NCRS to make the car COMPLETELY stock...24 years ago...still working on that! SOMEDAY I'll actually install the 24 year collection of N.O.S. parts! Maybe you could post some pics of your '72!
