I'm installing my dash pad on a 1961 corvette and was wondering what is the best glue to use to glue the top of the pad and over into the windshield channel. Also what is the best way to install the rubber under the windshield. I've watched two videos and one glues it to the bottom of the windshield first and the other glues it in the channel on the car first. Any thoughts on which is the easies way to do it.

Re: Dash Pad Glue
David,
For the Dashpad....
I use Weldwood contact cement right out of the can. I get it at Home Depot. I always carefully trip any excess foam from the forward edge where the vinyl folds over, and I use a heat gun at low setting to soften the vinyl before applying the glue to both body and vinyl surfaces.
For the windshield assembly....
I place it on the lower channel, then I use 3M Strip Caulk plugged into and around the Tee bolt holes to hold it there. I then add strip caulk strips along the body channel before I lay the windshield assembly back on the car. However the other method can work also, but I've found that trying to get the loose Tee bolts through both the rubber filler, and the body holes, simultaneously is a bit trickier.
FYI, enclosed is a windshield restoration document I wrote a while ago.

Re: Dash Pad Glue
Richard thanks for the tips. Tomorrow is the day for installation of the windshield. The dash pad is in and looks great. I have to go back and glue two small areas that didn't stick the first time before I move forward with the windshield. With a little luck and a lot of patience the two things I dreaded the most about redoing this car will be behind me.- Top
