This may be a dumb question or a senior moment. Does the correct TI distributor and TI amplifier need to be in place for a 435 L71 to function correctly?

Re: Transistorized Ignition on 67 L71
short answer is no, you could use any dist for chevy from the 60s with a points setup but then you would need a resistor, could have original dist with resistor and not using TI amp etc. if weights inside dist from L-71 car would run and perform fine and you most likely never know.Michael

Re: Transistorized Ignition on 67 L71
The engine will function correctly with either the TI system or a standard points system. However, these are not mix/match systems, they must be used as designed, as intended. So a TI system must use the correct magnetic pick-up TI distributor, the correct TI coil, the correct wiring harness (no ballast resistor), and the correct TI amp, all in good working order with proper grounds in place as required. The system will run just fine with a points system, meaning proper points distributor with proper condenser, proper wiring harness with correct ballast resistor, proper points system ignition coil.- Top
