C1 Fender Trim - mysterious washer

Need to challenge the forum on a part. In the C1 assembly manual that is a mysterious washer that I need some help with. Below you will see an extra washer on the finder metal nut and washer. They used this mysterious washer on the locations marked with an "X". I am thinking this is a rubber washer. The hardware stores sell a similar rubber washer and they call it a finder washer. So the question is does anyone know what this washer in the assembly manual is made from?

    Thanks

It's a rubber washer to prevent road splash in the wheelwell from bleeding through onto the paint.

Bill, Any dimensions of that little critter and a photo? I've never seen one.

        Here's the 1959 AIM page...Sec 11 Sheet 4.00. Part# 3723267

Sure. Here's a picture of what the dealer sold me in 1980:

This part is in group 12.183, part number 07583551. It measures 1/8 thick.

I had to buy 40 of them!

Don, once someone responds to your post, I don't think you can revise it.

Bill, is the center hole 1/4".

I could not find Group 12.183 on my 1933-1961 Parts & Accessories CD-ROM.

Joe: 1/8 thick, hole is 1/8. Keep in mind that this part may not be exactly the same as the original part...

3736275, 76 trim moldings, where 3723267 washer is used, are in Grp 8.132. My 29-59 P&A Catalog doesn't have that Grp 12.183 either. That group does not show the 3723267 washer there, nor is it shown in the Grp 8.899-8.991 Standard parts Section. Maybe Joe Lucia can gather some info about it. I'll drop him a PM.

I suspect it may not have been available outside of production.

Thanks for taking the time to check on this Joe. We all appreciate it.

I must have pulled that number off the AIM and put it on my long list of parts I was ordering without checking my parts book, because it sure isn't in my parts book. Some sympathetic soul at GMPD found a surrogate for me? Cool.

The ironic thing is that I won't use them. I never drive my oldies in the rain.

I was way off on what I thought these washers are. I thought that they were a metal fender washer that helped reinforce the fender.
