    Added stamped numbers to the Body data plate

    I Am trying to find out if anyone knows about a few additional numbers stamped into my 1966 body data plate (possible origin and purpose of those numbers).
    In the attachments, you will see some additional stamped numbers on the lower left of this tag. (The number sequence shown is 0125). The size and style of the numbers appears to be the same as those used to stamp the VIN onto the engine pad (however, I am certainly not the expert on this).
    This seems an awfully odd place to stamp random numbers, so I would speculate that there was some actual purpose/reason for this.
    I could speculate that perhaps this was a date for work done under warrantee, or perhaps a retrofit before leaving the factory.

    Does anyone know what these numbers might represent?
    Regards

    How about the Date of Delivery of your car, and stamped by the Dealer. I have seen this before, and it should be stamped on the VIN tag. 0125 could be January 25, 1966. Your car has a body build date of November 20, 1965…………….so it kinda makes sense. Especially if it was a dealer ordered spec car, and not a special order. It just sat around on the lot for a few months.

      It was the date of delivery stamped by the dealer for warranty . My 65 also has it .

        Might the first character be a D rather than a 0?

          That was the subject of a continuing 3-year battle between the dealers and Chevrolet-Central Office - Chevrolet wanted them to stamp the date the car was placed in service on the VIN plate (after the "DD" embossment), but stamping hard stainless steel was useless, so they used the trim tag (soft aluminum) instead. Most dealers just ignored the continuous stream of threatening letters from Chevrolet and didn't stamp anything.

            Hello;

            I was one of the Chevrolet dealer new car set up people who DIDN'T stamp anything. Even then we not convinced stamping anything on the VIN tag was a good idea.

              Thanks very much to all for the inputs. Very helpful. What I did not tell you for fear of "leading the witness", was that this car has an "out of place" differential date stamp of 1 18 66. As the car was manufactured in Nov '65, this did not seem appropriate. However, if the additional stamp mentioned is the delivery date on 1/25/66, this could have been a replacement differential for various reasons (blown up on a test drive, faulty original diff, customer request...), and therefore may have been delivered new as such.
              Thanks again to all. And best for the new year.
