    63-7 radio speaker ink-stamp (dates ?)

Noticed this while examining a few on eBay and one of mine from early '65 VIN 014xx; (first pic). The stamp code is 466435 (trust me ). The output transistor DS-501 just happens to be ink-stamped 435 (the early 3-digit format). I'm guessing that the last 4 speaker digits 6435 translate to 1964, 35th week. Another one I have is shown in 2nd pic with 466449 stamp (1964, 49th week). The 3rd pic is of an eBay speaker & radio removed from a '67 stamped 466706.
The first two digits might be the Delco model # (ie. for a 6" x 9" with attached output transformer).

Any comments on this theory ? Don't know whether this might apply to C3's or not.

Wayne, it's more than a theory that's how they are dated. Also the 2156 were installed in all C2's even the A/C cars. The so called speakers on EBay (2256) are all service replacements. Why the high price on Ebay for the 2256 speakers is a mystery.

The "466" is some kind of Delco EIA code (see other threads in the forum). The last 3 digits are the date code.
I have the following original speakers:
      70 Camaro: "7313511" and "466026" (1970, 26th week)
      71 Camaro: "7933921" and "466118" (1971, 18th week) from VIN 124871N575448, "05B" (2nd week May 1971)
      65 Corvette: "7282156" and "466505" (1965, 5th week)
      67 Corvette: "7282156" and "466706" (1967, 6th week)

The parts numbers agree with the part numbers in the AIM's.

      Dave

Hi Wayne. Long time. It's amazing you posted this as I've been digging deep into this subject myself lately. Thanks to those chiming in, I understand the date codes now. But the biggest mystery has been the sellers on eBay showing a difference of speakers on non-AC cars and ones with AC. I agree Harry, my '65 and '66 AIM don't specify any other speaker for U69 but #7282156. As my '66 w/AC's speaker was an aftermarket one when I bought her in '88, I was leaning towards a #7282256. Nix that idea now. I've got a few #2156s laying around to use.
        Merry Christmas,
        Mike

Wayne, et al, do the world a service and pass this "service replacement" info to the team leaders involved and stop this new "industry"; it's like the guys trying to sell 1116378 voltage regulators as original equipment when they were only service replacements.
