    60 door panel

    What is the correct screw head size for 1960 door panel fastening? Size 6 heads seat deeply into cone finish washers and leave sharp edge of v washer exposed. Size 8 heads look a little big in v washer. Appreciate help, Lynn

    Lynn, The stock repros fit fine for me. Like these.

    Not sure what head size they are, but never had a problem with them. When I get out to the shop I could measure them.

      The originals were #8 screws with a #6 heads. The correct #6 head does fit down in the cone washer and is not flush. If the head is flush with cone washer, judges know that #8 screws were used. I believe that I purchased a package of them from a fastener vendor via the internet. Google "#8 screw with #6 head".

          problem solved, the V finish washers in door panel were installed backwards. The rounded over side was on the back of door pane, presenting a sharp edge cone that stood out from vinyl and stainless about an 1/8 inch. (non compressible) Removed all trim washers, ground back off old door panel trim washers, polished, installed with #6 head #8 screws.

            I just went through this exercise with my 59. As Joe points out the head is a #6. If you purchase the cone washers from the supply houses, they do not fit properly. The originals door pad washers were mushroomed onto the pad and did not have the sharp edges as current repos. I tried a fix by purchasing a 1/4" grommet tool and used the anvil part in a vice with the a cone washer to flatten the edge. It only takes a slight turn in the vice to flatten it. Then I ground off a bit on the collar t to make sure that when you tighten the screw the pad fit snugly against the door. It fits pretty good and unless you have a bowtie car or the original door pads to compare.
