Rims for my 63??

Thanks for any help.

Currently i I am driving my 63 with what I beileve are my original steel rims and Diamond Back tires.

Im considering getting a set of era correct bias tires for judging purposes and putting those on my original rims.

so my question is this. Are there some inexpensive steel rims out there to purchase and put my DB tires on for everyday driving?

i know this is probably a silly question but I just need some general direction as I know nothing.

I think a set of repro '67 6" Rally wheels can be had at a reasonable cost, and your '63 wheel covers should fit them with no problem.

where would I buy this? And are there other alternative. Perhaps I'm wrong but are not these steel wheels very common?

The various Corvette parts houses should have them. I think the repro '67 Rally wheels are the most common and least expensive wheel that will fit C2s with either disk or drum brakes. Dimensions are 6 x 15", +0.060" offset. The offset on all '63-'66 steel wheels is 0.44", so the 6" Rallys will push the wheel/tire centerline outboard by 0.38", but should not cause any tire interference with the fender with the commonly available replacement sizes up to 215/70R-15, which is the widest.

Off the top of my head I don't know of any others unless you can pick up a set of any C2 OE wheels.

You can also try Ecklers. This is what I use for my spare when I run on Radials. I use 4 bolt-on knock-offs with the radials also.

Summit Racing or Jegs have pretty good prices on Rally Wheels. I even have a set on my Mercury, gets lots of questions at the gas stations!!

The '65-66 standard wheel will fit. I had a set on my '64 when I bought it. The wheel changed in 1965 to accommodate disc brake calipers so there is no interference and the bolt pattern is the same. They are known as "8080" (GM # 3838080) and they have a different rim cross section but are the same size andoffset (0.44"). It is the 63-64 wheel that seems difficult to locate and expensive if you find them. The 8080s seem to be more plentiful and cheaper. I have a set of repro BFG 6.50 x 15-1/2 bias ply white walls on mine, all correct except for the DOT logo, and an original as a spare. Check "Driveline". The edition on this forum is searchable.
