1965 seat belt

can anyone tell me if all 1965's came with retractable belts and boot?

Ethan . yes they did .the retractor is on the out board only . the boots are carpet color.

Thanks Bill. The belts that are in the car now have the tag (that are dated 1964), most likely when it was resotred they put in the wrong year belts. I thought maybe some of the earlier 65s used the 64 belts....I guess not.

All had retractors, but I thought that the boot receptacles came along around SN 7000 or so.

Mine is SN 5500 (Dec 64 build) and no boots

What is your car SN? What date on the belts? You have boots?

SN is 3421, no boots no retractors, the belts are dated 1964

Your car is a 64 build so 64 dated belts are right. Any month on the belt? For instance Dec 64 would be too late, but july - Nov 64 might be just right. I will check some references books on the retractors.

Nothing definitive but, retractors and boots appeared together at about #5700. (late Dec 64) Some later cars may not have boots because of a shortage in certain colors.

According to the 63-67 rest book, 2nd ed, page 258, retractors were a running change addition, becoming (almost) permanent around 5510, but SN 13898 is missing retractors. After that, supposedly permanent. Mine has them at 5507. Boots (cups) began appearing around 5733, and random up thru 16902.

A book example has SN 11808 (build date well into 65) with a belt dated H64 (Aug 64).

Note your belt. The date is given in a letter, then "64". Letter is the month. A is Jan, B is Feb, etc. I'll bet yours are right.

My 65 #14790 (April 1965) has 1964 dated belts. 100% positive they are the originals.

Interior is Maroon, exterior is milano maroon
