    65 conv. door align. wedges

These are the door alignment wedges I removed from my 65 conv.

Are they shown anywhere in the 65 AIM?
Are they discussed anywhere in the Shop Manual?

My Judging Manual says that the wedges on the door are natural aluminum and the wedges on the body are gray zinc. Mine are all plastic. Also, the LIC catalog lists plastic for the body and metal for the door.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion.

    William -

The door side wedges are shown in UPC 1-Doors, sheet K2, items 6-7-8; can't find the body side.

Bill, MY 63 has one plastic and one aluminum on each of the doors and the convertible lid is the same. Is it possible that maybe the you have the ones fro the convertible lid mixed?? Not sure if 65 had wedges on the conv. lid.

yes, wedges on 65, 66, & 67 aluminum on body plastic on lid. Check I see RH & LH pieces in my collection. But I'm not sure GM followed that.

This is the kit I got from one of the vendors. These wedges are only used on the convertible doors and deck lid.
From comments on this forum I believe the correct orientation is:
Aluminum (metal) wedge is mounted on the door with the thick side facing to the outside using flat head phillips screws.
Black plastic (described as gray zinc in Judging Guide) wedge is mounted on the body with the thick side facing to the inside using round head phillips screws.
On the deck lid, the metal wedges are on the lid with the thick side facing up. The plastic wedges are mounted to the body with the thick side facing down.
Now the only orientation question that remains is this: do the wide ends both go in the same direction or different directions? The wedges I purchased are stamped left and right. If I put the metal left on the left door then the wide end is facing down and put the plastic left on the left body jamb then the wide end is facing up, i.e. they are going in different directions. Is this correct?

that's how I installed mine, if the wide side are both up or down I ran into an interference problem, at least that's how I interpreted the installation not saying I'm right.
