The way the factory did it!

Here is a water pump out of a 57 that's been in slumber for a long time (40 years). Check out the four bolts that hold the fan and pulley to the snout of the pump. 3 UR and 1 WB2C. That's not a bolt that someone would find lying around if you lost one--same patina, etc. Came from the factory that way. And yes, that's a 56 water pump casting number.

We would pick up bolts off the floor and use it if it fit. That was at Buick in 1965 though.

Re: The way the factory did it!

GM had several suppliers for almost every bolt. Often parts from two (or more!) suppliers were in the plant together. Almost always they were mixed on the line by operators who'd just pour the new box into the old bin while there were still some old bolts left. After a few months of this, on big volume parts, there could be four suppliers head markings in one bin on the line. You're lucky to have only two head markings😊

Good info Mike......Today I'm on a '61 assembly, and I had to find some 1/4 x 20 bolts for various items. Here's what I found....and a few other bits I've been looking for.

I wonder what the meaning and difference between the WB 2C to the WB 1C is. Mine Grade 5, yours Grade 8 ??

UR's came from accelerator rod clamp at firewall.

Unsure where these came from. I got them in a pile with the car.

Volt Reg, Ballast, and fuse panel IIRC.

Rich, WB2C is fine thread or SAE. WB1C is coarse thread or NC.

              Rich,

Based on the 58 I have taken apart (don't know if applicable to 6x), those WB1C's may have come from the rear snubbers above the axle housing. The TR's were from the trans mount. The one's with the "t" may have come from the firewall mounted hood latches. I have also seen the "t" used to hold the emergency brake bracket to dash and firewall.

Barry, Ahhh...makes perfect sense now that I think of the WP hub using fine thread.

Tom, all of the bolts I showed are 1/4-20, so just for small items I'd bet.
