    L88 1967 carb date question List 3418

I have seen a Holley 3418, 3886091 with a date code of 793 or Sept 1967, 3rd shift. Last 1967 vette rolled off the line approximately July 11, 1967. What do you make of the date stamp on the carb? Could it be used on early production 1968 L88 or possibly service dated for a 67 L88? I do not think it could be production 1967?

    John,

The three stands for the 3rd week not the 3rd shift. Its also possible this carb was used as a service replacement as well as on few early 68 L88 cars as it was a carry over from 67. If they had extra parts laying in the bins they used them.

Here is a photo of the L88 Carb. Would like to solicit opinions on what its application would be?

By the way, the metering block is not correct according to the '67 Judging Guide. Anyone know the metering blocks application?

I dont believe this carb was smog ready, and therefore not okay for 68. I don't remember the exact differences. I have 4054 on my 68 and a 3418 in my basement. I think there is an extra port off the base plate on the 4054. I am away now and cannot check.

Richard, thanks for the reply. I think I have read on the board that the 68 does have a PCV connection on the base of the 4054 while the 3418 has a boss that can be drilled for the PCV connection.

In my research I do not see anything that says the 3418, one dated like this one, Sept 1967, 3rd week, could have been factory installed on a very early 1968 L88. However, that does not mean they were not and maybe someone on the board knows??

Also, based on the date I do not see how it could have been a factory 1967 L88 application due to its late date.
