      Harry,
kudos to you, Dennis, Eric and Joe for an excellent judging school today. Lots of preparation went into its content and it showed in spades. The actual examples of all the components and the color take home photos were great. Now I know what to look for.

Were your valve covers anodized? What did they look like after using oven cleaner?

I did not use it on my valve covers, I used it on my rocker mouldings.

It's been awhile since I did it, so not sure. I put it on and let it work for awhile and then used a scotch bright pad on it. Repeat as necessary.

OK Bill. You got me on that one, Har, Har. In all seriousness, what did you do with your "rocker mouldings" after you removed the anodizing? I have my original 63 mouldings that are in pretty good shape, but not as nice as my replacements changed back in the mid 90's. If I could improve the "silver" portion I know I could do a good job on the black. I always look for ways and means to return my original parts to my car.

Sorry Stu Fox, was not trying to be funny. I now realize that rocker covers could mean valve covers, so I should have used the term rocker mouldings.

I have not finished my mouldings yet. I have stripped the anodizing and worked out the dents. I next plan to sand with increasingly finer wet sandpaper, buff on my buffing wheel and clear coat.

Once the anodized coating is removed, the aluminum no longer has the strength that the anodizing process imparts to the soft metal. The un-anodized parts are easier to scratch and dent. There are two anozided finishes that I know of, standard anodizing (matte finish) and bright dipped (high gloss).
