my current tach cable is starting to make some violent noises as i drive down the road. my question is, should i just lube my cable or replace my cable assembly? Does either job require pullingteh dash cluster out or just sliding it out on 1/4" bolts? i assume i can pull my inner cable from the housing by unscrewing both ends (tach and distributor) and pulling from engine compartment. this way i do not need to touch my dash cluster / slide it out on 1/4 inch bolts etc. i can then grease and slide it back and reinstall both ends. sounds too easy. i am not even sure the dash cluster would need to come out for complete cable replacement. am i missing something?

Re: 1967 BB tach cable replacement
Paul, hopefully you have the same room as my 63 under the dash. I have enough room to undo both ends of the tachometer cable then pull the entire cable through the firewall. I believe it best to clean both the inner cable as well as the inside of the outer cable. If the inner cable is frayed you can pick up a kit to make a new inner cable. It's made by Dorman, part number 03368. I got mine at Autozone as I recall for $9.99.my current tach cable is starting to make some violent noises as i drive down the road. my question is, should i just lube my cable or replace my cable assembly? After everything is clean use Kable-Ease lubricant. Not too much as you don't want any to get into the Tachometer itself.
Goof Luck.
