    c-2 resto tip

have u ever installed a midyear coupe headliner----by yourself? it can b a cluster. i laid a couple fender covers over the fresh paint on the roof of this coupe, pirated a couple pillows from the wife's side of the bed and got out a inch wide ratchet strap. i slung a pillow between the new headliner and ratcheted the evil piece into place. then start reinstalling the various garnish moldings in place while the ratchet/pillow combo hold the new headliner up out of your way. mike

Did my 67 a few years ago most difficult job I have ever had to do on a mid year. I cant imagine how they were able to assemble these things so quickly...without punching holes in the windows!!!

Mike, I just got my repop headliner today from Al. Was going to "throw" it in until I can figure how to save my original headliner (subject of another thread on the DB). I guess having a couple of beers after putting the baby down and "throwing it in" is out of the question. Darn, thought I could whip it out in one night.
What was so difficult? Was is supporting the headliner while you get the moldings back in place? Can you elaborate on the job a little so I know what i'm getting into (regardless of when I tackle it). Thanks

That's a great tip Mike. Glad you used pillows from the wife's side of the bed. Now your headliner will be impregnated with her lovely fragrance. Pillows from your side of the bed would have resulted in a different aroma...

Vinnie and KC can vouch for that I'm sure...

Corvette headliners are a piece of cake you should put one in a suburban or a van .

Very smart tip Mike! I looked like a turtle when I put the headliner in a '66 Coupe several years ago; as I was trying to hold the headliner in place with my feet, while I installed the inner moldings (pretty stupid). The trick, which Mike has a fix for, is holding the headliner in the correct place while putting the moldings on. Fortunately, one of the members on the TDB Forum told me to not place glue on the side of the headliner that faced the roof; because I had to redo the installation several times because the headliner moved from its "correct position" while I fought to install the moldings. Securing the headliner so it does not move as Mike suggests is pure genius!

I put the headliner in my split window with no drama at all. Don't remember how I actually held it up there (prob with one hand) but I can't remember any particular difficulty....

I agree with Frank. I removed and re-installed the original headliner in my 65 and it was no big deal. I held it in place with a couple pieces of masking tape while I installed the moldings. 10 min. job at the most.

Another great reason to have a convertible. Of course, if you coupe guys just want to flip it upside down..........

I used the molding on one side with longer screws to hold that side while I installed the molding on the other side. Then replaced with correct screws. I had the advantage of original head liner with the trim marks in bedded in the liner.
