59 headbolt marking - TR or double circle - ???

I just received my correct date-coded block (519) back from the machine shop on Friday. I plan on assembling the block next weekend and want to make sure I get the correct headbolts so everything will be period correct. My heads are 3748770 (X58) and I can't find anything in the NCRS Technical Guide and Judging Manual on which headbolt markings are correct. I looked them up on Paragon (and a couple of other sites) and they offer either TR or double circle head markings for my year. And I remember that I needed 2 extra of the long bolts for each head when I assembled them on the chevy block (739) I currently have installed in my restoration project.

    Please help. Thanks.

    Jill,
Head bolts are not judged and that's probably why there is no mention in the TIM&JG.

Thanks Leif. Also, do you know what the water jacket plug head is supposed to be - hex head, allen head or something else...or does it not matter either? It's located on the side of the engine under the exhaust manifold.

I think you will find that there were a number of manufacturers used to supply the bolts. Typicall I have found the doublen circle, however, the 1960 I am currently working on had M's.

        The plugs are hex head.

Have complete original 59 passenger car engine (less intake & exhaust) been sitting in my shop for past 30 + years. Will make sweetheart deal and you can use all the original bolts you need.

Head bolts will be judged while judging the heads - at least what can be seen of them. Most often, we would expect to see double circle head markings.

            Regards,

            Dennis
