    C2 fuel tank

Doing a frame off on my survivor '66 roadster. Have the tank out but not sure what to do with it. It has a somewhat diminished coating on it that has a nice original patina to it but I would like it to look like new for judging. No leaks, sender works perfectly. Is powder coating like original coating an option for NCRS judging?

Michael - Sorry, I can't respond to your question about what an NCRS Judge would look for exterior wise but curious what your tank looks like on the inside? Prior to your body-off, did you drive this Roadster? I did a body off on my 65 Coupe back in the late 80's and then it sat for nearly 20 years (too many other projects). When I finally took it out of mothballs, the original tank had slowly rusted inside and numerous fine particles were finding there way past the fuel filter and into the carb. What I'm suggesting is that it's a lot easier to add in a new tank now than later on if your tank isn't in good shape internally.

      Mike,
If you want it to look like new than install a new tank they are less than 200 bucks. The original tank has a zinc plating, powder coat would be totally wrong finish.

Mike - As Gene said, the powdercoat finish wouldn't look right at all and with exposure to fuel, might disintegrate with time. Both original and repro gas tanks are steel coated with Ni-Terne which is, if I remember correctly, Nickel-Tin-Lead. If you're hesitant at all to use your original tank, I'm sure there are repro's with the correct logo stampings that would satisfy the NCRS judges.

Mike R., Quanta makes a nice reproduction tank with the correct stamp that does pass judging. I think that putting a 49 year old tank might be a bad decision. a lot of work to replace down the road if it leaks.

Mike i just removed my tank and the same thoughts went through my head i decided to go with the quanta tank and i can tell you it is an exact reproduction i matched everything with the original tank i removed and there were no differences except for the patina on the old tank lol which i was glad to do without.

Absolutely no way to make an original tank appear like new. Among other reasons, the steel used to fabricate the tank was electro-finished PRIOR to the steel being stamped into the tank sections. No way to duplicate that on an assembled tank.
