    1956 Exhaust Manifold Restoration

I'm in the process of restoring my 1956 Corvette convertible and am wondering if a heat riser or spacer is required on the two 4 barrel. Engine is 225 horse, second design.

    TIA
    Jim

    Hi Jim,

I believe the '56 2nd design requires a 3 bolt flat gasket/thin heat riser as opposed to a '57 that uses a doughnut type gasket.

heat risers were originally installed on the 265 56's regardless of early or late exhaust manifold type. mike

Mike hits the nail on the head again. The three bolt 56 heat riser valve is unique to 56. The 6th edition of the 56-57 Judging manual has a nice picture of an original part.
