One of my actuators is dented at the tube location. I don't know of anyone who repairs these. I have a chance to purchase one, the tube is narrow like mine but is a little longer. Part number is 5638461. Is this a service replacement? Thank you as always.i punched in the part number but nothing came up. image.jpg

GM #5638461 was the original headlight actuator used in PRODUCTION and once available in SERVICE for 1968 Corvettes. It was discontinued in July, 1970 and replaced by GM #5638541.
There's a problem with part numbers here, though. PRODUCTION and SERVICE information indicates that the GM #5638461 was a RIGHT side actuator. However, the odd last digit part number USUALLY indicates a LEFT side part. Also, the GM #5638541 which replaced the 5638461 is DEFINITELY a left side actuator. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 68 Headlight Actuators
Many thanks Joe. Any input on tube length. I would assume the longer tube came along in 70 ? No part numbers visible here. The red dye was the only markings on these?68 L79 Convertible: Triple Black: Work In Progress, Body off. Now on!

Re: 68 Headlight Actuators
I forgotten the deal on the tube differences between early and later actuators. No part numbers were ever embossed on the actuators, PRODUCTION or SERVICE. However, it seems like I might have seen some that had the part number ink-stamped on them. I don't recall, for sure, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
