70 Pass Side inner fender wheel holes

I am cleaning up the front inner fender. The passenger side has a couple holes in the rear.

    Should these holes be there?

    Thanks, Bill

Re: 70 Pass Side inner fender wheel holes

    Hi Bill,
When the vacuum relay for the the wiper door was located on the the other side of the apron it was about in the position of the 2 holes you show
There were 2 additional holes about 2 1/2" to the right in your picture.
A small plate was held in place on the wheel well side of the apron at that point with 2 rivets. The other 2 holes in the apron and plate were for the relay mounting screws.
Could that be the reason for the holes? You got 2 of the holes even though the plate/relay isn't there in 70?
    Regards,
    Alan

Bill, The AIM should have a pic of all the holes drilled on the firewall , but not sure about the fender wells. I think in 70 the wiper relay was mounted next to the power brake booster area. some early 71's were also.

        Thanks Alan,

Very interesting thought. I am hoping this is not unusual so no glass work is required.

If you are down this way you might be interested in that there appears to be NO factory undercoating on the driver's side inner fender or very little at best. It is a no hit front end. The driver's side rear wheel well was the same. The passenger side appears to be a little heavier than typical and I have had very good success cleaning it up and keeping the original undercoating.

        Kindest Regards, Bill

          Hi Bill,
          Thanks for the invitation.
Although I cleaned the undercoating off my aprons I do remember that the vast majority of it was on the rear wall of the apron.

70 was definitely mounted next to the PB booster. I looked at the AIM earlier but did not see holes in the inner fender in this location. I think Alan's theory may be a good one.

Curious if an original 70 owner might chime in and if maybe there was a change through the 70 production year. The holes clearly do not look like they were drilled by bubba. You never know.

            Kindest Regards,

            Bill

I made a lot mistakes before I joined NCRS. I still make mistakes but NCRS is here to keep me straight. I am still going back to fix areas I messed up.

              Kindest Regards,

              Bill
