    LOF stencil

I was wondering if anyone has ever reproduced their own glass LOF markings and if so how did you go about getting a stencil for this?

I had the door glass on my 69 polished to remove some scratches and it came out excellent. However I didn't realise that the LOF logo was on the outside so it took a beating to the point that it's almost gone so now I'd like to put it back. Glass etching seems simple enough but the stencil might be another story. Has anyone ever gone down this road?

    Hi Greg,

I can't answer your question about the stencil, but am interested in the polishing, Were the scratches deep enough to catch a fingernail, and did you do it yourself?

      Re: LOF stencil

about 25 years ago, i bought a bunch of c-1 windshields from dale smith at OEM glass(dale has since passed--a farm tractor 'crushed him). anyway, he sent the windshields but forgot to put the LOF data on one of the 53-55 windshields so he stopped at our farm on his way to corvettes at carlisle that year and did the LOF logo in our backyard. he had a collection of variously dated stencils which were very thin rubber 2" x 2" squares. the lof logo and appropriate date was on the rubber piece he used to inscribe the windshield. he had a small air powered gun, similar to the guns used to clean old spark plugs. he taped the stencil to the windshield(with heavy paper surrounding the stencil), then blew a white powdery substance at the stencil .i suspect the powder was glass beads. took about 2 minutes start to finish. mike

Mr. Hayner will do any LOF data and send you the stencil and etchant IF he is still performing that service. It's been a long time since I used Mr. Hayner. Very nice man but I don't have his phone number.
He used to advertise in Hemmings!

        Good luck,

Its been years but I purchased an LOF stencil set that also included some pink colored acid that I used to put the LOF logo and date codes on my fuelie Nomad. It came with extra stencils with a bunch of different dates. The outcome was perfect and passed several scrutinizing judges. I will look for the extra materials that I have and hopefully the instructions and get back to you.

Joe, I did a search for Mr Hayner and it would appear that he has passed away.

Roger, I had this company http://www.superglass.com/auto-glass...locations.html

I found the extra stencils and acid along with the instructions. Unfortunately, it was Fred Hayner's product. Sorry to hear he passed. He was a great help. The stencils I have are for a '57. They are different than the etchings on my '63 glass and would surely be different than your '69. Sorry, I am no help.
