They sell a 1/8 spacer to space out the backing plate from the knuckle to get the brake hose to clear. They are sold 2 at a time .Wouldn't you need a spacer on all four to keep the backing plate true to the drum.

Re: 1957 Big Brake backing plate spacer
I'm going from memory here. I know that the regular brake backing plates spacers are shorter than the RPO684/687 spacers. I assume that's why they sell the 1/8" spacers-to make up the difference.
Phil, I think I need to disagree with you here. There are two spacers on each front installation, so you would need 4 per car.
i just can't remember if the spacers are on the bolts with the castellated nuts, or the other pair of bolts at each spindle support to backing plate.- Top

Re: 1957 Big Brake backing plate spacer
They were not part of the bolt but were more like a sleeve than a washer and were insatlled on the engine side of the backing plate. As I recall they were 1/2" thick at least. They were on the top two bolts for sure but don't recall if the were also on the bottom two bolts. With the backing plate in front of you it would be easy to tell. I'll see if I have a good photo somewhere.I'm going from memory here. I know that the regular brake backing plates spacers are shorter than the RPO684/687 spacers. I stand corrected, there are 4 per car (the older I get The better I used to be) on the upper bolts with nut and lock washers none on the bottom with the castellated nuts. Phil 8063- Top
