66 Passenger Inner Fender Skirt Picture

I am having to do some fiberglass repairs to the passenger side inner fender skirt on my 66. When investigating what things should look like, I found some older threads on the forum that lead me to believe that some of my damage might not be damage at all, but a crude modification done at the factory to clearance the space above the brake line. I think there might have even been a Restorer article about it, but I haven't been able to find any date or issue information.

Another thing I haven't been able to find is any other pictures of the area in question so I am seeing if anyone has some pictures of this off their 66s. I have seen 67s and that area seems to have been fixed in the mold. Here is my April built 66.

    Jeremy,

You are correct regarding the cut from what was determined by Gary Beaupre. He did an article on it for the Restorer some time back (don't recall the exact details). My May 6th car has the cut. I'm sure Gary might speak up and give you more details.

    Regards

My July '66 car in photo attached; not the same contour on the cutout as yours, but I am unaware if it was ever altered.

        Jeff,

The relatively large missing corner in your photo is exactly what I'd expect to see. The broken off corner geometry in your photo is virtually identical to the presumed original examples I showed in the Restorer article. I too, don't not remember what year or issue of the Restorer the article appeared in and I think the photos I had were on an old computer that is no more. Perhaps someone has a way to find out what issue it was.

To the best of my recollection the geometry in Jeremy's photo does not match the other examples I found, but looking at the Restorer article is the best way to see multiple examples.

          Jeremy,

Off the top of my head, I don't remember if I speculated in the Restorer article when the practice of breaking off the corner started. Perhaps the practice post-dates your April '66 car. Definitely the practice of breaking off the corner, presumably by the assembly line workers, was happening in May, June and July of '66. But I can't say if it was done on every car during that time frame.

Sounds like a few have a cut like mine.

Now how would I go about finding that issue of the Restorer. Anyone have a copy?
