C2 Door Pull assembly in AIM

Am I just too dumb to figure it out , or is the picture in the 66 AIM UPC1 K-7 wrong.

It appears to me to become a door push if installed as shown, with the lever stop/spring catch installed rearward rather then forward . Further I can't get the connecting rod to attach to the back of the pull lever and still attach it to the door latch mechanism from the outside inward .

Enclosed are pictures of the AIM drawing , and the only way I can figure out how to make it work .

OK, tell me how dumb I am , but tell me how to install it correctly afterwards.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Jim, as long as the spring pulls the handle back to it's at rest position you probably have it correct.

It's possible the picture in the AIM is showing the spring installed wrong. See what others say, I will go up and look at my 63 car in a while.

      Jim,
Perhaps the attached file will help you. It is a PDF of an article that appeared in the Summer 2004 edition of Corvette Restorer. The article, "Corvette Mid-Year Door Anatomy" was written by Dave Zuber. The article includes pics and in particular one of the components / mechanism you are asking about.

        Thanks Tim and Ed,

I dug out a Chassis Service Manual, and both pictures confirm my suspicions!

Spring Catch/ Lever Stop is forward, not rearward , and Connecting Rod is mounted on front of the lever , not the rear !

I intend to write a good stern letter to the A.I.M. folks ! I waste enough time on my own , without trying to follow instructions that are 180 degrees out !
