Just wondered if any body had any tips or tricks , or could lead me to a thread or web page on how to disassemble the seatbelts in my 67 , all of the posts in the archives are about who can restore them for you, and I would like to do it myself, I can order the roper webbing and have it sewn, just a matter of getting the retractors and buckles apart and back together for plating.

Re: 67 seat belt restoration
Dave,
Take a look at this thread in the archives from 2005:
https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...ght=Seat+Belts
The 67 Seat Belt story (Anatomy of an RCF-65 Seat Belt Buckle) was eventually published in the Summer 2006 Restorer.
This was my first Restorer article.
The thread is a little more descriptive than the edited article.

Dave ,
Here's a thread on the retractors:
https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...elt+retractors
The trick is to heat up the boot to remove it from the retractor assembly.
Once the boot is off, you can figure it out.Jerry Fuccillo

Re: 67 seat belt restoration
Dave, just a note of caution. I had a "shoemaker" sew new labels on my existing 67 belts. It was a real challenge. First I had to obtain some thread as the typical thread used in shoes is noticeably thinner. (I purchased 2 sizes with enough thread to go into the business {smallest quantity order}). Then the shoemaker had to reset his machine for the proper thread size and stitch. This took some time. Overall together we spent about 2 hrs getting things correct. Luckily for me he was having fun and only charged me $15 for his labor. I guess I'm saying, if you want a quality job the emulates the original stitching you may want to go with someone who routinely does this work.- Top

Re: 67 seat belt restoration
Stephen , those look fantastic, I have just been on Paragons site looking for the webbing, and I see they sell the date coded labels , they don't seem to have the webbing listed , but maybe it is just not shown on the site.- Top

Re: 67 seat belt restoration
The webbing on my belts is original, as is the stitching. All I did was sew on new labels. The originals were somewhat worn.....Photo is of one of the better originals.Attached Files- Top

Re: 67 seat belt restoration
I simply removed the original labels, redyed the belts, then I sewed on the original labels using the original holes in the webbing. I used a thick, long needle (available anywhere). Also, like Steve, it took me a few runs to craft/fabric stores, but I was able to find thread that was identical to the thickness of the original. Sewed the original label back on and voila....Good luck with your project. ARA- Top

Re: 67 seat belt restoration
Just finished ripping the belts apart , now that I've done it , I am embarrassed that I asked for help, they are about as complicated as a sun visor, anyway thanks for the help I'll post a picture when I am finished.- Top

Re: 67 seat belt restoration
In my search today, for seatbelt webbing, I ended up talking to Charlie from Seatbelt Sity , he was super helpful, and informed me that Ssnake oil , does not have the right webbing, he does carry it but it is quite pricey at around $250.00 for enough to do a set of lap belts, I wish I hadn't cut mine to get the buckles ect. off, it was actually in pretty good shape. I think I will take my chances on Ssnake oil, theirs is $20.00 per yard, and Paragon sells the date coded labels for 10 bucks each, and the rubber boots for $30.00 a pair. One tip Charlie gave me was to not use show chrome on the buckles and latch piece, because you will loose the stamped writing on the back of the buckle , and the latch will not fit into the buckle if it is too thick .- Top
