    1959 Tire Valve Question

    Ok, here is a good one. What is everyone doing for original 1 1/2" tire valve stems on original wheels since they are no longer being made for the 5/8" hole? Spent all day yesterday and this morning on the phone and last night running looking for these. Repo wheels are 1/2" hole which is no problem to find but the original wheels have larger holes. Car is being judged in Charlotte so what is the protocol now that this issue has developed? 1 1/4" (too short IMO) or 2" (way too long IMO) and what are the deduct penalties going to be? You can't put something in that is not being made. If anyone has some they are willing to part with I would be interested. Thanks for any help in advance.

    Did you ever get a answer to the correct stem to use?

      My local tire store (family business, not a chain) was able to order the correct ones for my 1958 about 4 years ago. Did not have a problem

        Nope, never found the 1 1/2" as stated in judging manual. Used 1 1/4" and they look perfect. Not a single point deduction for the wheels. I looked at the other cars at Charlotte and they had the same thing. Personally I think it looks better than the 1 1/2" would look as the cap is closer to the wheel cover and is still easily accessible.
