    1969 Alternator

Here's an interesting piece. I acquired this some time ago and, at this point, have forgotten where. I just found it the other day behind some other things here in my office. It's a 1969 alternator with the six "spoke", open drive end case and the seven fin with flat grounding lug slip ring case. This was the 1969-only configuration. However, this was not a Corvette alternator. Many folks think that the SI series alternator, first used for 1969, was used only on Corvettes for that model year. That's not the way it was, though. There were a few other 1969 GM applications for the SI alternator, although none were for Chevrolet passenger cars.

This alternator was a GM #1100854 [not for sale]. It was used on 1969 Pontiacs with 61 amp alternator and heated rear window. From what I can find, it was never available in SERVICE. Instead, for SERVICE, the GM #1100825 was specified. The latter is a quite sought-after alternator that was used in PRODUCTION on 1969 Corvettes.

This particular alternator was manufactured on February 11, 1969. I'm quite sure it's never been rebuilt since the stamped broadcast code is still present and the correct front and rear case halves are intact.

Joe, when I was searching for one for my car, I did a TON of research and found the following applications to use the SI alternator with the spokes and the cooling fins. Maybe this will help others in the future.

    Ed

    1100832 - 37 Amp - 1969 Firebird 400

    1100859 - 42 Amp - 1969 Corvette
    1100880 - 42 Amp - 1970 Olds F85, 1970 Olds 442

      Hi Ed,

What is the star next to the 1100884?

Oops. That was the one specific to my car I was looking for. I'll edit the post and remove the asterisk.

          Ed,
You might want to add to your research data:

1100900, which, in addition to being used on the 1970 Corvette was used sporadically in late 1969. I have one on my '69 built the first week of December 1969. It's dated 9L6. These have now been recognized in the '68-'69 Judging Guide:
"**1970 alternator is seen sporadically on original 1969 cars from July 1969 to the end of 1969 production".

Is the slip ring (rear) case half of your 1100900 exactly the same as the one I pictured above?
