Re: 1967 3904391 Cylinder head
Thanks everyone. Wonderful information. I looked at the springs again and have concluded that the valve springs in both heads are, IMHO, low mileage GM 3970627 springs. All springs have the purple dye on two sides of each spring and the inner coil is a spring (round). Lucky me. Thanks again. Hope to see you guys at the Denver National Convention.

This means that the valve springs have been replaced on this engine and are absolutely not original to the engine. The GM #3970627 did not even exist in 1967. The question is, are you sure they were ALL replaced? In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1967 3904391 Cylinder head
Joe,
Yes. Understood. I consider that a good thing that they are not original to the engine based on your earlier statement that the original 3859911 "spring is VERY problematic and often breaks, sometimes with disastrous results. I would NEVER have these springs on big block of mine. Never. Ever." And yes, to your latter query. As I noted earlier, "All springs have the purple dye on two sides of each spring and the inner coil is a spring (round). I also noted that they have a yellow end (closed coils) going toward the head.
Thanks for your help.- Top
