    68 ignition switch

The key warning function of the ignition switch on my 68 stopped working. I pulled the key cylinder and can see a loose piece of brass at the bottom. I suspect this is part of the switch that energizes the buzzer when the key is inserted. I checked on new switches and the replacements available do not have the built in light holder as found on the original switch. I'm wondering if it is possible to disassemble the old switch to do a repair? Has anyone attempted this?

    Thanks

Dan. I had the same problem with my '68 and replaced the cyclinder which fixed my problem. I didn't explore how to repair it.

      Dan,

It appears that GM switch # 1116697 ("697") was only used on 1968 Corvettes. The 68 Pass. used #1116702, the 68 Chevelle used # 1116703 and the other 68 models used # 1116694. NOS 1116697 switches seem to be available but they are price well over $100.

Many years ago I disassembled a damaged "673" switch (1966 Corvette & Pass.) that I found in a salvage yard. I thought that I might be able to use the "guts" from an aftermarket switch and put them in the "673" housing but no such luck.

It has been awhile ago, but for several issues a NOS 68 ignition switch was for sale in the Driveline. I thought about buying it and keeping as a spare.
