Excessive heat on the Tail/Stop fuse - 67 Coupe

I am blowing tail/stop fuses or at least generating a lot of heat on the inboard side of the tail/stop side of the fuse. I have blown two fuses and the third is probably not far from blowing. It is starting to turn a little black. Any ideas where to start troubleshooting? I am guessing something is grounded out. FYI, my emergency flashers don't work at all. I am guessing the flasher is broken. Could this be the culprit? Or a place to start looking?

    Thanks

If the fuse is not burning in the centre where it is designed to blow out, but rather melting the solder in the end caps, or discolouring at the end, the problem is not high current flow. The problem is a poor connection near the end of the fuse where the heat is. Either the fuse to clip or where the wire is crimped into the fuse holder/terminal/clip.

Can't give you advice on what the cause of the problem might be but I can strongly recommend that you disconnect the battery when the car is in storage (parked or unattended). A battery shut off switch would be a great investment if you don't already have one. Sounds like you are on the verge of playing with fire with this particular problem. Hope you find the problem soon.
