1966 Front License Plate Bracket

Guys: What do I need to put a license plate bracket on my 1966 Corvette? Nothing appears to be there. I saw the kits on Ecklers, yet, how is it actually attached to the vehicle? Does it go between the bumper brackets or do I need to drill into the body (Heaven forbid)? Help a Corvette guy out.

A chrome plated bar bolts to the brackets that are welded to the inside of the bumpers. The black steel license plate bracket bolts to the bar. Nothing touches the body.

You can look in a 1966 Corvette Assembly Manual, UPC 14, sheet A2, or you can look at the drawing below which is basically the same except for some part numbers. There should be two small holes in the chrome bar (GM # 3797439) between the front left and right bumpers.

Look at UPC 14 - A2 in your AIM and you will see the parts you need. The bar to mount the license plate bracket is available as a reproduction.

sure, but you know how rare those are, and I think it was just 67 that offset the bracket for A/C.

Just to be clear, I need the bumper cross bracket; the license plate bracket; and a specific bolt kit - is that correct? Can I get everything from Ecklers? Thanks guys and sorry for the Sophmoric questions (but, this is pretty specific hobby I'm gathering from the detailed responses on various Forum topics). I'm starting to think I'm in for a rude awakening at my first NCRS Show. It'll be fun, albeit tough I imagine.

Yes, Ecklers will have everything you need. Also, every other Corvette warehouse can supply you with the specific parts. The front License Bracket was once supplied by GM under part number 3878898.

Do you know if the repro bracket sold by Paragon or LIC has the sp (or upside down it's a ds) stamping on it? That is something I've seen judges look for.

No I do not. that would be something you would have to call Paragon about. I would not call LIC they get a little funny about asking questions like that. but I am sure there are plenty of used originals out there
