    Judging deductions for restoration motor?

If an owner has a big block car that has a correctly dated and restamped restoration motor on a car what kind of deduct will it take in judging? Will it be able to get a top flight award?

Tom, I have a friend with a resto motor and a recent Regional there was a 0 deduct. Keep in mind the judges would like to see the broach marks and stamps as the factory, many different fonts on the stamps out there. Dates stamps should be close to keep them on there toes.

Mine got an 88 point deduction. But it can still be top flight of course.

The OP stated 'correctly dated and restamped', with the key word being 'correctly'. Yours presumably got a deduct because it deviated from TFP in various ways.

If a restoration engine does not deviate from TFP in any detectable and quantifiable way- how would a judge know it's a restoration engine?

The practical side indicates that many restoration engines have passed with no deduct. Some were because the judges were 'fooled' as you stated but others were because deductions must be quantifiable and put into writing by the judges and not just a hunch, suspicion or prior knowledge.

As to why your own pad got a complete deduct, the details of why are on your judging sheet. Part of the process is the post judging debrief to the owner that supplements the written comments.

If they are on the judging sheet then it is very cryptic, only NTFP and comments at debrief was similarly cryptic, like "just looks too good". As I said I just accept what I am told you cannot fight city hall and i don't intend to. But back to the OP's question, it all depends, it's a crap shoot that depends on what judge you get at what meet.

Michael's pad stamping looks just about perfect to me. I would love to know what is NTFP about it.
