    1990 ZR1 VATS override question

Just bought a VATS override module from Ecklers (got tired of sitting in parking lots). Does anyone have a picture of the connection it plugs into? My electronics manual for a 1990 shows the connector having a yellow and purple wire on one side of the connector and that is the side I plan on plugging it into. However the two wires on the other side of the connector are white not black. Just want to make sure I have the right connector. Picture would be most helpful.

You can hardly get it wrong. I believe the VATS connector is pretty much exclusive to the VATS application. In any event, I don't think it's used for anything else under your dash. So, if the connector on your override module fits, you should have it right. The right wire pair will emanate from the steering column. Unplug the connector, plug in the connector on the override module and you're done. It's very simple.

By the way, are you sure you have the correct override module?

Took your advice it was the only connector that matched and was wired all by itself. Plugged it in and car works. Went through the bowels of local chevy dealer and found the device that measures resistant on the key and got it right.

You actually don't need any special device to measure the key. You can measure the resistance of the pellet on the key with a simple VOM meter. Then, on a table usually found in the factory service manual (or, online) you can find the VATS code number.

As I recall, when I took my '87 ignition key into the dealer to get it measured the tech referred to the device as the "Interrogator". Fortunately, they didn't ask me for the invasion plans.

Yes, that's what they called them. However, as I mentioned, you don't actually need one to measure a key. A VOM will work perfectly and easily.
