    Modern Radio for C2 Cars

Does anyone have experience with Mike Hagan Antique Auto Radios ---- specifically c2 cars (67) -----

I know he offers an upgraded radio with newer internals and a restoration service --

The upgraded radios look really nice but the question is do they judge out correctly? Both looks and operation?

    Thanks
    Bill

They fail PV as the indicator won't move with the push buttons unless the radio is turned on.

Thanks Russ --- that is one of the subtle little things that I was afraid of with these radios--

      Thanks again

      Regards

They were never meant to pass judging; just to look somewhat like the original.
I have one in my '63 and another in my '61; neither will pass judging...
The C1 version is also missing the little red switch under the wonderbar "bar" for DX....

Forget the radio. Just listen to the engine!

Holy cow --- I am already deaf in my right ear and I just bought a side pipe car !!! Might as well trash the left side too!!!!

Still need the radio to work for the judges though ---

Good point about the engine -----!!!!

Not worried about judging. How does the one in the 63 perform?

Read the speaker requirements very carefully!

Also look for max output at RMS rating and not peak, big difference in sound quality at a volume to hear at speed with side pipes. Do not try to use your original speaker either. I have a pair of Infinity 6" rounds on a plywood jackboard I made, even covered the board with black naugahyde. I am also using a single mount of a pair of 4" round Kenwood in the dash top in the OE place.
The radio unit is a Pioneer with 65watts rms that I bought from Corvette Central a long time ago and no longer offered. It doesn't have mp3, bluetooth, or any other modern inputs. It has a cassette, 3 FM bands (18 stations) and 1 AM band (6 stations).

Don't get anything from Custom Autosound, as in my opinon, they are worthless junk, radios & speakers.

Re: Modern Radio for C2 Cars

When I was building my 72 one of the few things I subbed out was the radio for an electronic upgrade to well recommended guy. Well I had to ship it back 3 times. Now once the new internals and speakers get power it sounds ok, not as good as I expected but ok. The problem is the volume pot is bad now. I think this was a common issue with these old radios, so if I turn it off it takes a bit of playing around to get it back on. ON/OFF several time, applying side load, and slowly turning on and VERY slowly turning up the volume. Then I don't turn it off and it's good until I hit a bump in the road!
I would have been better off having the radio restored vs updated or at least I expected all the parts to be checked out. That is what I do when I get a job in.

It works just fine; I run it to the Custom Autosound 140W dual voice coil 6" x 9" single cone speaker...that is the ONLY one to use in the dash -- trust me on this. Here it is: http://www.classiccarstereos.com/pro...kers/3006.html

Here is the radio pictured with the speaker uninstalled; if you want to add bluetooth invisibly order the $60 worth of components shown from Crutchfield:

Has anyone used Joe's Classic Car Radio to repair their radios? Need my '67 radio repaired, but what to be able to pass NCRS judging.
                        Thanks,
                        Phil
