Frame VIN stamps

Hopefully, some one can settle a dispute regarding frame stamps. Are frame stamps (found on driver side frame rails) from 65 through 71 eight characters in the following format - Year (single digit), letter "S", place holder (single digit - 1), sequence number (5 digits). Or are they seven characters (same format as above) except without the single digit "Year" appearing? Thanks!!

1965 and up frames had a year code stamped in front of the S. 1963 and 1964 frames did not have the year code.
