    Re: 65 caliper rebuild

Ok Wayne Im confused on the dates. When was day one and how did your dates on a August built car have those dates . I only have two of my original calipers the other two were given to me . What would be the dates on a May 12 built car ?

Bill --- Maybe I'm making too big an assumption; ie. that therse are Julian date systems, and Jan 1 would be "001'. Somebody with an early production (pre-January) car with known original calipers should report. Just off-hand, if your car follows the same Julian system as mine (might ), I'd be comfortable with dates 90 days earlier than in my case.

The dates I show for my Aug 2nd car are well within the NCRS guidelines for casting #s versus final production.

What's the story on the character size ?

Wayne it looks like I have 3 with large letters and one with small. I need to clean them to be sure and read the dates . I cant remember if my car was missing the front or the rear calipers when I bought it in 1980 . The missing set came from a friend I will ask if he knows where they came from heres what I can read 902 large "279" 905 large "279".... 902 large "87" 905 large "74"... 952 large "69" 954 large "70" ..... 954 small "229" 952 small "8" the dates on the small one are very hard to read I will blast them later . I think the fronts are my originals ????? What do you think ? more than one maker or different molds ?????

The only manufacturer of these was GM Central Foundry Division. However, I'm very confident that there was more than one pattern ("mold"). I expect the difference in font size related to specific patterns.

What makes the PLACE bolt unique, in addition to the precisely-dimensioned and segmented head detail, is the undercut on the bottom of the bolt head (which is what gives the bolt its self-locking capability). PLACE bolts are very effective (and very expen$ive).

Yes, and I expect that had a lot to do with the fact that GM discontinued their use on the calipers after very early 1967.
