Fiberglass work is certainly not my forte and my experience with it is just about as limited as it could be. However, I really don't understand how a repair of this problem essentially "from below" will yield a permanent and durable solution to the problem. As I mentioned previously, the problem is caused by corrosion of the aluminum rivets and the conversion of the aluminum metal to aluminum oxide which has a greater volume than the metal. In my opinion, for the repair to be durable, all of the aluminum oxide must be removed. As I recall, the procedure that Ralph Eckler advised involved removing all of this material and the surrounding material.

The bubble in the glass comes from the rivet head expanding as it corrodes. If the head and a large portion of the shank is removed the future corrosion should be very minimal. Also these cars are no longer driven in the harsh conditions that they once were thus drastically reducing the future corrosion if any at all to very little. .
