73 License Plate Area -Assembly/ Hardware Questions

The latest "71 Key Envelope" thread caused me to take a closer look at what I need in order to have everything correct in the license plate assembly area on my 73. I noticed the plate screw envelopes posted, show 4 screws for mounting. The pictures were from cars through 72 I presume. The 73-74 JM says there should be four screws in the package, unless they are mounted on the car. Do these four screws hold the actual plate on? Or are they for the bezel? I can only use two screws to hold my plate on. The bottom two that hold the bezel to the rear valance don't line up with the lower plate holes. And my other question is, does the plate frame assembly that was supplied just clip around the plate? Can't tell from any pictures I've seen.
My car was a Pa. delivered car (rear plate only state). I would only need to have one Plate Frame and one License Plate Screw Envelope correct ?
As always thanks for any help..

Re: 73 License Plate Area -Assembly/ Hardware Questions

    Hi Jimmy,
The license plate frame had 2 pairs of spring steel 'prongs' riveted to the sides of the frame using a small almost flat headed bright rivet.
The prongs were curved a bit and shaped so they could be slid behind the plate a little to hold the frame in place.
I'd think in a one plate state one frame and 2 screws would stay with the car since they weren't needed.
    Regards,
    Alan

      Thank you Allen,
Now I know what to look for. I used to have that same style frame on my 69 Plymouth Satellite back in the late seventies. Should always keep everything!

Jim, I think that if states that had one plate, then one frame was used, but I am sure that two plate frames were in car along with the mounting screws also for two plates. I was a Chevrolet tech in my younger years and did many new car prep's, along with Corvettes . the AIM may spell this out, also the JM may say something also.

Re: 73 License Plate Area -Assembly/ Hardware Questions

              Hello Ed,
JM says that each car came with two (2) ss frames in clear plastic bags if delivered to states that require two plates and with only one (1) if delivered to states that require only one plate. It can be judged (installed) on the car, if not installed then it must be shown to the judge. Just wondering, I do have my original build sheet for my car that is proof of where my car was delivered in Pa. Wouldn't that be proof enough for only one frame assembly? The AIM just lists #3797485 Frame ASM-License Plate. On th Misc. Shipping List.

                IT would be proof enough.
