    Restoration engine

Considering buying a 67 Big Block car that has a restoration engine. What can I expect when it comes to judging? It does have a verified tank sticker to back it up.

    Re: Restoration engine

Is this the one that Legendary just sent out the email on?

As always, it depends how much it is or is not typical of factory production. If the dates and casting line up that's the big parts. After that it's down to the quality of the stamp pad surface and characters. So, it may receive deductions for those or it may not. It all depends on the skill of the engine restorer and the judges.

Despite the rumors, it shouldn't get total deduction for the engine if it's a true restoration engine.

Just opened and looked at the e-mail from Legendary Motors on that unit. Looks like a beautiful car. Somewhat surprised that Peter Klute didn't show any engine bay pics or the stamp pad or closeups of the tank sticker...HMMMMMMMM!!!

Tank stickers are not presented or evaluated as part of the normal Flight Judging process.

Restoration engines are judged on their own merits, just like any other engine. They get no special treatment or allowances.

I would be very, very careful there, and have a very experienced BB knowledgable person evaluate it before purchase.

If you are truly interested in the car you may want to make sure the Tank Sticker is run through the NCRS Document Validation Service. At least that would be able to verify the car was born with a big block in 1967 and not reborn with a BB in 201?.

The only problem with that is if all the stringer #'s are not there you can't get it certified. A lot of real tank stickers are missing the top left or all of the top part of the paper.

Yes, it does from the ad at Vintage Corvettes. I am assuming it is the '67 silver/blue roadster (gorgeous car BTW), and since I am sort of a poster child for a "restoration engine" (thanks Vinnie), then let me post the picture of the engine pad on that car so people can take a look and make some guesses about how good it looks as a restoration engine and what the judges might think.

So now the PC word for restamp is "restoration?". Guess that OK as long as everyone is on the up and up about being a NOM.
