    1967 spare tires

I finally had occasion to check the lock, spare tire tub and tire on my coupe. Lock: failure. Tub: good condition. Tire: Goodyear 7.75-15, 4 ply rated 2 ply, Power Cushion. No nubs on the tread, nubs on the sidewalls. My question revolves around the tire options. I do not have the original option list. When I acquired the car, it had radials with white sidewalls. I have replaced them with newer radials with white sidewalls (the ones that were on it were probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 years old).
Would GM have put a whitewall tire in as a spare if the car came with whitewalls? Since this car was a very base model, I would assume that the car came with black walls since that is what the spare is. I'm guessing that the spare is original, or very close to original. It has slight signs of cracks in the sidewalls (I will have to replace it because it couldn't possibly be safe to drive on, even for short distances).
Any insight as to tire applications would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Does the blackwall spare have DOT markings? All 5 tires matched.

What does the tank sticker say?

To answer you question, all 5 tires and wheels were the same when the car was built.

Post some close up pics of the tire, especially the code between the dimples on the backside of the tire and we can offer up some thoughts and opinions. Ara

An original tire would not have any DOT date codes.

I wasn't talking about DOT date codes, I was talking serial numbers that Non-DOT tires had. It's also my understanding that Goodyear was the only tire manufacturer that had a decipherable date on their non-dot tires. The other manufacturers did not put any markings on their tires to date them. I have a whole bunch of non-dot tires from all manufacturers and they all share identical traits within each manufacturer. Close ups of the backside of the tire would tell you/us/OP if the tire was a DOT or not. Love to see a pic of it....ARA

Ok, I get to learn something new.

IIRC, I was under the impression that the code was not easily decipherable.

Another point to consider is how many numbers are there? If its a tire made in the 60s, it should have 7 or 8 numbers. In the early 70, tires carried a 10 digit code and in the early 2000s it went to an 11 digit code.

which is exactly why I suggested he post a pic of the numerals so we can discern what we have here... Steve, nice talking with you the other day. Glad you're well. Hope to see you soon my friend...>ARA

                    Thank you all.
I've been tied up the past few days and just had a chance to check this thread. The tire was relatively spartan as to information. It was a pain to take down since the lock did not come off with the key and I put it back up without thinking it through. I should have just left it out until I get a new tire. It certainly won't be of any use as a spare in the condition it's in. I will get it back out and take some pictures and I'll try to get them posted by this weekend.
                    Thanks for the replies,
                    Steve
