    C-1 Clock Repair

Does anyone have information o the C-1 Westclock repair? I bought one in Florida and that was restored by the vendor. I did hear it work as it should so I bought it. I installed it prior to having the car judged and it kept perfect time. Over the next few weeks it started making a buzzing sound when it was resetting and then quit working a few days later. I removed it and took it apart but can't seem to figure out why the electronic reset isn't working. If I move the large rectangular plate back and the clock starts again. Nothing fell out when I opened it. so there must be something that resets the clock mechanism to continue ticking. any ideas?

    Pat,

Since you have only had the clock 7 months, I would return it to the vendor and expect him to warranty his work. Was it me? Don't think so but it should be covered by at least 12 months warranty.

Joe, The vendor did reply in a PM. I was completely surprised as buying used reconditioned parts has an inherent risk. He is going to repair it no charge. There are good honest vendors to there that do back their work.

Is the battery hooked up all the time? If you have a cutoff, the clock does not rewind when the battery is disconnected.

          Pat,
Guess it doesn't mater much now because the vendor is going to fix it again for you. I've never worked on a C1 clock, but if the works are similar to the C3, it sounds like your points needed cleaned. The main spring runs until the points make contact, then the electric current causes the points to "click" back thus resetting the main spring. (That part you moved back). That's the clicking noise the clocks make about every two minutes. The points need to be clean to make a good contact. I use a sliver of my wife's finger nail file to clean mine works fine. Never heard the buzzing sound though? Like John said if you disconnect the battery it won't keep resetting. They will stick together if they are left without being hooked to current.
          Hope this helps,
          Regards,
          Jimmy

Thanks for everyones input. I guess I did learn something and that is not to use the battery disconnect and let it keep running. I did spray some contact cleaner in the mechanism but that didn't seem to do the trick. I checked the archives and someone indicated there need to be a fuse 1 amp I think. It also said that the lower voltage would cause the point to possibly stick.
