1967 Backup Light Housing Internal Color

I removed these from a black '67. There is white inside the housing(traces), and black at the outer ends.

Were all housings originally black ends? I'm thinking it's overspray from a prior re-paint. I refinished these, re-painted internal housings white, but not sure if I need to blackout the ends. What's typical? Not specific in JG.

I see reproductions are all white inside, like these.....

Black probably came from a body respray.

Richard,
my original 67 backup lights have no black on them.
Did you use gloss, semi gloss, semi flat, or flat white paint to refinish them?

Thanks guys, I figured the black was probably a mistake too.

I used gloss and a matte clear topcoat as that's what the original white looked like, albeit probably faded over time.
