c1 Headlight bucket and cup assembly questions

Hi Reinstalling headlight assemblies in our 61 Corvette after installing correct horns and some other needed repairs in the area. Noticed there is a small pin extending out back of both headlight buckets. The passenger headlight bucket has 1 pin marked with a R on the head and it's location is to the outboard side of the bucket assembly on the passenger side. Passenger side headlight cups marked R1 hi beam inboard, R2 outboard lo beam. Drivers side headlight bucket assembly has 1 pin marked blurry and cannot identify located to the outboard side of the bucket assembly. It,s headlight cups are marked L1 high beam inboard and L2 low beam outboard. Assume headlight bucket orientation is with 1 adjusters on top and 1 to the outboard sides when installed. .Question to ask , is there a drivers side headlight bucket and a passenger side bucket. Also found post where someone explains that the positions of the cups are opposite of what we have?? Car was hit on the right side early on and both buckets are correct for Corvette (small hole for harness). Tanks for any help on this, Don.

    Don,

Yes the buckets are different, but only due to the orientation of the pin on the top. This way the assembly would be oriented for left or right installation to the body, as the low beam had to be outward. Here are some file photos I found of some nos replacement buckets. Not the pin at top of each and orientation to the center hole. Also some instructions that were included in NOS buckets.

Cups/dogdishes are marked as you have described. Mount/adjust points always top and outboard.

    Left
    L1 inner lo
    L2 outer hi

    Right
    R1 inner lo
    R2 outer hi

O.K. great. The photos are perfect. I have them installed properly now. For some reason someone had the bulbs in upside down so the script was on top instead of the bottom and they jumbled the cups to accommodate the installation! I read the forum where you 3m weatherstrip around the buckets to prevent water and debris from entering bucket assembly. I will do that too! Drivers side bucket has cobbled up headlight bezel brackets that were repaired many years ago and I just ordered a new set to install. I thank you all so much again for the knowledge of the forum and members! So many small details that have been wrong on the old girl. Maybe some day she will be transformed from a sow,s ear to a silk purse. Again I thank you all until the next mess I uncover, Don.
