    Engine Stamp Pad

I was looking to get some thoughts/opinions of authenticity of this stamp pad. Thank you.

No opinion as I am not an expert by any stretch, but I like your last name!

The VIN characters are the wrong size and width, and they look like they were not stamped in a gang holder. The Flint characters are better. The grain looks like it was applied with an electric sander and it is not completely straight. The pad is definitely not original.

The vin stamp looks to small as Pat says, flint stamp I think is okay and the broach may just be someone had the cylinder head off and maybe some sanding marks??

Forgive my ignorance about C1s. Did they all have vin derivative on the pad?

The VIN derivative on the pad started in the 1960 model year, in December, 1959 around VIN 1800. Don H.

What I get from the judging manual is the VIN derivative stamping started in 1960 with VIN 1800. And the VIN derivative was applied WITHOUT a gang stamp from VIN 1800 thru 5394. Characters were 3/16th inch from 1800 thru 5394. 5395 and beyond went to 5/32 characters. I am no expert on this stuff, but that photo does not seem to correlate with the words in the judging manual.

My 1960 is VIN 1651 and it has the VIN derivative stamped on the pad.

The description of the stamping is correct but the VIN numbers are wrong. I have pictures of original pads as early as #1332 and as late as #5884 that are stamped freehand in the larger characters.

But the "RE" or "RF" suffix code started in 1962, and a gang holder would definitely have been in use for the VIN derivative by then.

This is a real amateur attempt at a restamp.
