The original ones on my 63 broke off so I cut a small piece of sheet metal painted it black and stuck it on with some black silicon adhesive.

Great pic Wayne! Those are held by three spot welds on two of the edges. Not a problem for any welding shop or auto fabricators.

Easily fabricated and spot-welded. So easily fabricated, in fact, that reproduction sources might be embarrassed to offer them.

Was wondering how far into 64 production one would expect to see these shields?
            Thanks

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

I seem to see more cars without these little square welded on sheet metal than one's that do. Was this hit and miss or do they just break off? I'm assuming these were welded on after the cams and strut rods were assembled. Yes, no?

That's a no. They were spot welded to the camber support assembly.

The deletion of the shield from the strut rod bracket was not accompanied by a change of part number. Apparently, it was changed simply by a revision to the specs for the part.

So only '63 and perhaps early '64 brackets were manufactured with the shields? When the shields were deleted, was that accompanied by a re-routing of the exhaust pipes to get the heat away from the camber rod bushings?

The ones I have seen look more like a tack weld done with a mig or a tig weld.
