My 68 has just been painted and it seems the attachment holes for the drivers side outside mirror have been filled in and painted over. Ready to install the new mirror and need to locate the mounting location. Any ideas?

Re: left hand outside mirror location
If your doors are apart, you should be able to look inside the door and see where the body filler filled the holes.Leif

Re: left hand outside mirror location
Harry:
I would first look on the inside of the driver door to see if you can see the filled in old holes. They may be visible as a dimple or small fiberglass bubble. If visible and you know the mirror was correct beforehand, then use a Dremel and drill out the holes from the backside.
Otherwise you may need to find a 1968 car and take the measurements.
I THINK that a new mirror may have had mounting instructions included in the mirror box. Perhaps someone has these that they can give you.

Re: left hand outside mirror location
Solved the mirror problem. It seems that the left hand mirror was optional on the 68 and this car did not have one so there were no mounting holes. I used a magnet to locate the taping plate that comes installed from the factory. Then I drilled and tapped new screw holes for the new mirror. I had assumed the car came with a left outside mirror but it didn't.- Top

Re: left hand outside mirror location
Harry,
I'm very curious about the information you just shared. Left hand mirrors were installed from 1953 on up. I don't find anything in the 68 JG that indicates it wasn't standard. The location changed, but I'm pretty sure the proper question is "where", not "if".- Top
