    Radiator recommendation

I have a 1967 L 71 which is nicely restored. Took a second flight but it will probably never be a top-flight while I own it. it tends to overheat in the summer like most big blocks. It has developed a small radiator leak. It's not the original radiator and I'm looking to replace it. Any recommendations for a proper appearing, and effective radiator replacement.

    thanks,

    Ron

Check with a local good radiator shop and see if it can be re-cored. If not then go with Dewitt.

Install a new radiator from Dewitts. Insure that the fan clutch is operating CORRECTLY!!!! Install the correct thermostat. Prior to all this, thoroughly flush the entire system!!!! If you are suspect of a potential heater core problem, install a bypass hose prior to flushing.....
My 67 390/427 does NOT have an overheat problem. GM sized things correctly for a clean system..... problem is that over years the system hasn't been properly maintained resulting in overheating in hot weather.

Now the cabin temp is another matter.... hot, hot, hot, in warm weather with no A/C......

If you are not going to get it judged , get an aluminum direct fit radiator from dewitt .(and paint it black) it costs less than a correct dewitts copper radiator and will cool better than a copper radiator.( aluminum cools better than copper) i have had big block radiators recored ( not 20 years ago ,but in the last 2 years) and the cost is as much of more than dewitts direct fit aluminum ones........ But if you are getting the car judged its another story.

              Re: Radiator recommendation

Before you spring for a new radiator, convert the ported vacuum advance to full time and swap in a B26 VAC. Set the initial timing at 8. Then go through the idle speed/mixture adjustment procedure using an accurate test tach and target 900 RPM.

Around town coolant temperature will be noticably lower. It's been discussed on the TDB a zillion times.

Dewitt's 1239066M looks to be proper looking and for my big block manual but not judge-worthy. $550 shipped. Anybody know how to get a discount code?
