    Receiver/Dryer for A/C System

Can these be reconditioned? ie: emptied and repacked with fresh dessicant.

    Thank you.

Yes. Classic Auto Air, Old Air Products, and PacecarJeff at Ebay can do this and are recommended. About $100 or so exchange.

Joe I have seen the dryer pictured for C3 Corvettes in Ekler's parts book for C3's at a reasonable price. Looks very similiar to the original type dryer in my 70 with the sight glass. Does you car use the same type?

Jim....mine has no sight glass and looks very different. It is natural aluminum, not painted among other differences.

I examined mine closely and see that there are no markings on it, except for what looks like a small paint dab. That can easily be copied, so I'm going to use a new replacement which cost about 25 dollars like the C3 type. The replacement looks like a dead ringer of the original.

If I can get the seal swapped fast, and the system quickly evacuated, then I might not replace the accumulator at all.

Here's one I ordered from the GM dealer in the early '80s, part # 3155342, listed as for '63-67. Never used; if you shake it (think cocktails) you can hear a faint "thump-thump". Is this the bag that contains the dessicant shifting ? The black plastic plug just covers and protects the sight-glass.

I think Joe is talking about an accumulator for his C4, but used the words drier..............so the rest of us are thinking C1-C2-early C3 receiver drier.

Yes, I always knew that part as a "receiver/dryer core", but the term "accumulator" is also used. The function is the same.

Joe looking at the Ecklers information in your post and reading the note about receiver/dryer/accumulator is the first time I have read that the receiver/dryer/accumulator has a 3 year use time for a replacement change.

                    Sure.
They want to sell a lot of them. Greedy bastards.
Only should be changed if the system is open to the air for "awhile".
As long as there's pressure in the system, how the hell can moisture get inside.?
